Hansen Certified Carbon-Neutral, Invests in Two Offset Projects Focusing on Renewable Energy Generation

October 26th, 2022 – Hansen Technologies (ASX:HSN), a leading global provider of software and services to the energy, water and communications industries, is pleased to announce that it has taken a progressive step towards becoming carbon-neutral globally, by achieving carbon-neutral certification for its Australian operations with Climate Active.

Hansen’s recently established carbon-offset strategy and the endorsement from Climate Active, a partnership between the Australian Government and Australian businesses to drive voluntary climate action, formalises the independently audited carbon-neutral status of its Australian operations for the financial year 2021. The company is currently working to secure this certification for the most recent fiscal year for Australia and expand this strategy across its operations globally.

As part of Hansen’s carbon-neutral strategy, the company invested in carbon offsets from two carbon-certified renewable energy projects based in India, which is home to a significant number of Hansen staff.

Andrew Hansen, Chief Executive Officer at Hansen, commented: “Respecting the planet and supporting a more sustainable future is something we have long taken very seriously at Hansen. For us, sustainability spans not just our environmental footprint and impact, but also how we operate to support and grow our people, our customers and our communities in a way that will help deliver a more sustainable future. All of this is underpinned by a strong governance structure.

“As Hansen explored options to invest in and offset our carbon emissions as one part of our overall Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy, the company had some key criteria. We wanted to focus our efforts in countries where our people live and work from. We also wanted to support projects or initiatives that would help our people and customers be able to consume more environmentally friendly energy in the future.

“These initial projects – a wind power project in Andhra Pradesh and a hydroelectric project in the Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh – are delivering renewable energy to two remote communities, helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels, supporting the delivery of greater energy security, and opening employment and education opportunities to those communities.”

Hansen has committed to expand on this program, as the company seeks to become globally carbon-neutral, as part of its broader ESG strategy. The company will unveil more details on this strategy, and other initiatives it has in play across the ESG spectrum, at its upcoming Annual General Meeting.

This announcement is authorised by the Board.
