SaaS Partnership to transform distributed residential energy devices into structured, tradable flexibility assets embedded directly within utilities’ commercial and trading systems.
March 6, 2026 – Hansen Technologies (ASX:HSN), a leading global provider of software and services to the energy & utilities and communications & media industries, and Emulate Energy, a leader in deep-tech software that turns residential energy devices into a reliable, flexible resource for utilities, today announced a strategic SaaS partnership.
As residential electrification accelerates and flexibility markets mature across liberalised energy systems, utilities face rising imbalance exposure, procurement volatility and local network constraints. In response to this structural shift, Hansen and Emulate Energy are partnering to transform distributed residential energy devices into structured, tradable flexibility assets embedded directly within utilities’ commercial and trading systems.
Electric vehicles, heat pumps, batteries and solar are scaling rapidly across residential portfolios. And when these individual devices are aggregated and intelligently orchestrated, a significant dispatchable capacity is unlocked. Utilities that are enabled to integrate orchestration, forecasting and trading within their core platforms are positioned to convert this hidden capacity from volatility into commercial advantage.
Through this partnership, utilities can orchestrate behind-the-meter devices in a tariff-aware and market-integrated manner to provide direct savings for their consumers. Furthermore, residential loads can be optimised to reduce imbalance costs, align with wholesale price signals, mitigate local grid constraints and, where regulation permits, be aggregated into virtual battery structures for participation in wholesale and ancillary markets.
By combining Emulate Energy’s AI-powered Home Energy Management System (HEMS) and production-proven Virtual Battery capabilities with Hansen’s CIS, Energy Data Management (EDM) and trading ecosystem, residential electrification transitions from operational burden into managed, monetisable flexibility embedded within the utility’s commercial backbone.
The result is forecastable, dispatchable residential capacity that can be valued, coordinated and traded.
Carl Lidholm, EVP Energy & Utilities EMEA at Hansen comments: “Residential electrification is reshaping utility operating models. Following a comprehensive evaluation of AI-powered HEMS providers, we selected Emulate Energy for the depth of its orchestration capabilities and its ability to maximise consumer savings without increasing operational complexity. Together, we provide utilities with a direct pathway from residential flexibility to wholesale market participation.”
Shwan Lamei, CEO at Emulate Energy adds: “Hansen’s footprint across CIS, energy data management and trading systems creates a powerful foundation for commercialising distributed flexibility at scale. This partnership enables utilities to reduce imbalance costs, optimise procurement strategies and unlock new revenue streams from aggregated residential portfolios, positioning flexibility as a strategic asset class within the enterprise.”
