Agder Energi and LOS Energy

Agder Energi produces, distributes and sells energy and energy-related services. They are the third largest energy producer in Norway.

LOS sells energy and energy services to both the residential and business market. They are the largest electricity supplier in the Norwegian business market.

Problem

Problem

The Nordic energy market is undergoing a far reaching transformation. The arrival of a new supplier-centric market model will demand a number of large changes from utilities over the next several years. Agder Energi has made the decision to be a first mover, splitting its business processes and CIS IT system between its DSO unit (Agder Energi Nett) and retailer unit (LOS).
Stronger requirements for market neutrality come into force with the introduction of the Norwegian data hub Elhub, and these mandate separate CIS solutions as a prerequisite for going forward. To ensure conformance to coming market changes and to provide a stable environment for smart meter roll-out at the DSO, Agder Energi determined that a separate CIS solution should enter production in Q2 2015.

Solution

In order to meet requirements set by the new supplier-centric market model, EnoroCX developed a new combined billing solution for its market-leading CIS product. This standard solution is designed to handle large customer bases and it meets the goal that an end customer receives one, and only one, combined energy invoice. The solution builds on standardized market message flows and a standard invoicing format, and is designed to work with market processes defined by the data hub for the future needs of combined billing.

The standardized billing solution is highly automated and is fully compatible with the IT environments of both the DSO and retailer companies. EnoroCX migrated Agder Energi’s shared CIS data into two new, separate CIS systems, and trained personnel on the new systems and processes to ensure a smooth transition to the new way of working. Key goals in the project were to secure data quality, guarantee market neutrality, control open receivables, and face head-on future business procedures and their requirements.

Solution

"At Agder Energi it is vital for us to be ready for all upcoming market changes. Transforming our CIS system into two separate DSO and retailer systems was an important strategic decision we took to prepare for the future and to transition to the national data hub. Close cooperation between ourselves and Enoro was the key to success in the project. Even though the timeline was very tight, we were at confident we would reach our goal as planned. Together with EnoroCX we delivered the project on time, in budget, and in conformance with all quality targets."

Outcome

Outcome

An automated solution for combined billing brings tremendous operational efficiency. EnoroCX helps Agder Energi to deliver customer value and profitable customer engagement by automating time-consuming back office processes.
The complete combined billing process for 160 000 network customers is handled by only three people at Agder Energi Nett. Separate CIS systems provide an opportunity for utilities to improve customer engagement and sharpen their competitive edge. By owning customer interactions, they can choose and design their own engagement processes. They
have better control of the value chain, and it becomes easier to drive innovation in their subsidiary business portfolios. Specifically for the retailer, LOS, EnoroCX’s billing solution has enabled more rapid innovation and new product creation, and has made possible more attractive offerings for customers.
